Four years ago, I was asked to participate as a member of a non-profit planning committee. Little did I know, that this first event would turn into three spectacular fundraisers!
Habitat for Humanity of Oshkosh puts on an annual dinner and art auction to raise money for the homes they build locally for families in need. This year, marked their 7th year with the biggest and best event yet!
We started from scratch, and by scratch I mean, revising last year's plans to make this year's event A-MAZING. We worked to create a different atmosphere and a more energetic environment for guests. Anticipating 250 attendees, we set out to transform the Oshkosh Convention Center into a classy affair with butlered champagne, a live art auction featuring some very talented local artists, and of course some very emotional presentations about two well-deserving families.
This year was a special year for Habitat for Humanity of Oshkosh. Not only are they building a duplex for TWO families, but they are also building an ADA compliant home.
To mark the 7th year celebration, we worked with House of Flowers to create copper themed centerpieces highlighting the trademark greens and blues of Habitat for Humanity. Matt's DJ Service provided blue uplighting to soften the room and provide a stunning pop of color. Yo DJ Entertainment and Wisconsin Mirror Booth offered up a fun surprise for guests to interact with a new personalized photobooth experience.
Many artists donated dozens of art pieces for bidding in the silent and live auctions throughout the night. Our emcee and auctioneer for the evening, Nicole Peterson, kept the excitement alive and the bidding paddles moving!
The plated dinners provided by Premier Waterfront Catering, delighted with a custom duet of bacon-wrapped pork and raspberry jus, a dry-rubbed chicken breast topped with a blackberry gastrique, herbed potatoes, and truffle Brussels sprouts. Always a delicious treat - Tamara's the Cake Guru provided their fabu-lux cupcakes for dessert!
Following two emotion-filled videos about this year's Habitat partner families, 4 of the children who will be moving into their new duplex, helped draw the winning tickets for the numerous raffle baskets, filled with some amazing items donated from very generous individuals and local businesses.
After months of planning, prepping, and hard work, I'm thrilled to say that the 2017 Home Is Where the HeART Is event was a huge success and I'm looking forward already to next year!
Thanks to everyone who donated and joined us for a great night celebrating the community of Oshkosh!
